We reported earlier this week that the launch of Amazon Clinic’s nationwide rollout has been delayed because of certain issues raised by the Senators and it was said that while this could be delayed further, Amazon was confident that they have answers to the queries raised by the Senators and it looks like that has been done as well. That is because we now know that Amazon has rolled out its Amazon Clinic telehealth services nationwide in the US which means you can enjoy Amazon’s excellent customer support along with their telehealth services in all the 50 states of the US.
Amazon Clinic’s GMO said in a statement that “At Amazon, we want to make it dramatically easier for people to get and stay healthy, and we’re doing that by helping customers get the care and medications they need in the way that is most convenient for them,” and added that “The virtual service will allow customers to see the cost before they start the visit”. Amazon also mentioned that besides “message-based consultations being available in 34 states, Amazon Clinic now supports video visits nationwide. Amazon Clinic currently does not accept insurance, but medication prescribed by clinicians may be covered by insurance”.
As far as the telehealth services that Amazon Clinic offers, it was already launched in some parts of the US as soon as November last year. It “offers customers 24/7 access to third-party health-care providers directly on Amazon’s website and mobile app. With the service, Amazon customers can receive telehealth treatment for dozens of common conditions, such as pink eye, urinary tract infections and hair loss” as per a report from CNN.
Talking about telehealth, Amazon Clinic is not the first attempt by the company at getting into healthcare as the company had earlier “partnered with JPMorgan Chase and Berkshire Hathaway to provide better health care services and insurance at a lower cost to workers and families at the three companies, and possibly other businesses”, CNN reports. However, it is mentioned that those efforts never got off the ground due to one reason or the other and was eventually shut down in 2021 which is also when the peak of pandemic took place.
