Researchers at Yıldız Technical University (YTU) have unveiled an innovative health monitoring system leveraging the power of machine learning and artificial intelligence to offer monitoring and near real-time analysis of athlete’s health to avoid injury during performance.

According to a news report by Hurriyet Daily News, the system uses special hardware and software designed to analyze athletes’ health and performance as soon as they appear on camera.

Hüseyin Üvet, researcher team leader and lecturer at the institution’s Mechatronic Engineering Department, stated that the AI-driven system can help identify potential risks early, ensuring athletes train healthily.

Key Features of the Health Monitoring System

Designed based on biomechanical and physical data gathered from athletes, the system features AI algorithms integrated with special mathematical functions and personalized data for each athlete. The data fed into the algorithm allows for easy monitoring and analysis of athlete health in every movement.

Üvet told Hurriyet Daily News that the system records the athletes during the entire training to identify factors that could result in potential injuries or other health issues. This helps athletes to choose a healthy training load to avoid overstressing their bodies.

When fully developed, the team hopes the system will be capable of providing compressive monitoring for athletes during action using just a single camera. The data gathered will be collated into reports for advanced analysis.

This technology marks a significant development in sports technology engineering, with the potential to reshape sports training and performance in the future.
