Boston Medical Centre is working on a new type of RPM system. It will also allow the staff to detect BP in patients. The goal is to prevent deaths and manage the health of patients.

Boston Medical Centre is a non-profit academic medical center. It is also the largest safety-net hospital in New England. The hospital is famous for its medical care. Infants, children, teens, and adults receive care. The hospital is also shifting towards the use of RPM.

Dr. Christina Yarrington is the chief of maternal-fetal medicine. She works to have all the necessary resources in the hospital. These resources also help detect postpartum hypertension in already at-risk patients. She helps in treating hypertension but in a different way. She works to treat the condition by not helping the natural bonding of mother and child.

Postpartum hypertension is a very real problem. It also leads to severe maternal morbidity. The patients can suffer heart strokes. Thus, the careful management of the BP data is important. But there are challenges that hospital faces in the timely collection of data.

The data collection problem was difficult to handle. The pandemic was like putting oil into the fire. It magnified the problems. So, Boston medical staff, with Dr. Yarrington, proposed a unique solution. They also said that they would take the help of RPM.

Dr. Yarrington proposed that their version of RPM is different. This version of RPM can work in any condition. It does not need any sort of connection such as wifi, Bluetooth, or cellular plan. The patients just need to wear a blood pressure cuff connected to a cellular plan. And they need to press a button. The reading will also automatically get recorded.

The patients at risk of hypertension should get their readings for 6 weeks. Their six-week period starts just after delivery. However, the instructions are in the three main languages of the area. They are English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole. The patients also get a QR code and informational video.

The data gets transferred to Rimidi’s portal. Rimidi manages the RPM system for postpartum hypertension. The data goes to Boston medical staff, and they work on it. They make every patient receives an alert as per their medical information. The new RPM system did manage to detect early cases of hypertension post-delivery.
