MedicosBiotech has received a CES Innovation Award in the Digital Health category for its Cure Silk chronic wound care solution, the company announced Tuesday. The award recognizes outstanding innovation, technology, and design.

Cure Silk combines artificial intelligence with therapeutic patches made from spider silk protein. Users can use the Cure Silk app, which uses a smartphone camera to take pictures of wounds and analyze them . AI diagnostics within the app identify the wound types and severity, providing personalized treatment recommendations.

The company says the technology is designed to be user-friendly, allowing individuals without medical training to manage chronic wounds at home.

The spider silk protein-based patch is designed to treat stage 3–4 pressure ulcers and grade 5–6 diabetic foot ulcers, conditions that have historically been difficult to treat, according to MedicosBiotech CEO Dr. Wonmin Yoo. The company expects to receive Class II medical device approval from South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) in early 2025.

Spider silk protein, known for its strength, elasticity and biocompatibility, has a history of use in wound care spanning over 2,000 years . However, production challenges have previously limited its widespread use. However, rapid advancements in the field of synthetic biology have enabled the production of the material at scale.

Cheol Daniel Kim, COO of MedicosBiotech, said the award recognizes the company’s innovative blend of biotechnology and AI . He added that Cure Silk is an easy-to-use and affordable solution with great potential to enhance access to chronic wound care, promoting a more inclusive global healthcare system.
