identifeye HEALTH, a Connecticut-based health technology startup developing AI-driven and automation solutions in health, has launched an innovative AI-driven retinal diagnostic camera, identifeye System, to democratize access to high-quality vision care.

As reported by HIT, the system will help healthcare professionals integrate retinal imaging into healthcare settings for routine check-ups, enabling early detection and timely management of various health conditions, including diabetic retinopathy— the leading cause of preventable blindness among American adults.

With the retina being the only unique place in the human body where both the blood vessels and the nerves can be non-invasively observed directly, it provides a unique window into one’s health. As such, it allows healthcare professionals to use specific biomarkers to gain personalized health insights for tailored medical interventions based on personal needs.

Democratizing Access to High-quality Vision Care

According to a report by the Fred Hollows Foundation in collaboration with the International Diabetes Federation, one-third of 38 million Americans living with diabetes develop diabetic retinopathy, which is one of the leading causes of preventable blindness in adult Americans.

However, due to high screening costs and a lack of readily accessible ocular diagnostic tests, most diabetic adults miss their annual screening for diabetes-related eye illnesses, reducing the possibility of early detection. As such, any technology that could increase access to retinal screening at a reduced cost is a game-changer.

The newly launched identifyee system enables hospitals and healthcare organizations to integrate eye screening into their primary care, allowing them to detect early signs of diabetic retinopathy and other eye illnesses such as glaucoma and macular degeneration.

Apart from ocular diseases, the AI-driven retinal diagnostic camera can also be used by healthcare professionals to check for cardiovascular health, neurological conditions, systemic diseases, obesity, inflammatory conditions, infectious diseases, and personalized holistic wellness.
