Bengaluru-based Monitra Healthcare Private Limited has designed a chest patch that captures transient abnormal heartbeats, which usually vanish and are difficult to diagnose using conventional methods.

This sleek, discreet patch continuously records an electrocardiogram (ECG), capturing brief, sudden changes in heart rhythm. High-resolution data is then analyzed using artificial intelligence and validated by experts to ensure accuracy.

In a statement reported by Businessline, Aparna Bhogu, co-founder of Monitra Healthcare, said that their device would be helpful in detecting heart-related illnesses in many people experiencing frequent fleeting heart irregularities that are often difficult to diagnose.

She added that Monitra Health’s device would be critical for providing continuous monitoring and accurate data, enabling healthcare professionals to detect any health irregularity earlier and provide necessary interventions.

The three-year-old startup, housed at T-Hub, currently has 55 employees and plans to bring in 100 more in the next two years to support its product and geographical expansion.

Superior Resolution and Accuracy

The product has been gaining good traction since its launch among leading hospitals and cardiologists in Hyderabad, she added. According to her, superior resolution and accuracy, result validation, and checks for false positives are some of the distinguishing capabilities of the device in the market.

Bhogu added that the patch’s output comes with high-resolution recording, which captures subtle nuances in the ECG signal that may not be caught with traditional monitors.

While the device uses AI in processing ECG data to provide reports, it also requires certified technicians, who review the reports generated to correct false positives, non-events identified by the AI and false negatives— the events that actually occurred and AI failed to detect.

The human validation of reports makes Monitra’s device very accurate and reliable. By combining technology and human insight, this new diagnostic device provides the best possible information to physicians and patients.

In addition to the innovative patch, Monitra Healthcare is currently working on a new diagnostic product that captures ECG data from multiple viewpoints, allowing for a more comprehensive view of the heart’s electrical activity.

The startup is also developing other products that can track oxygen saturation (SpO2), respiration, brain activity (EEG), and even body temperature as it prepares to launch its products into the US market as well as other international markets in the future.
