Vera, a Berlin-based health technology startup providing AI-driven breast cancer detection solutions, has secured $8.9 million (€8M EUR) in series B financing round to revolutionize breast cancer screening.
The series B investment round was backed by Smart Family Office, IBB Ventures, and FJH, according to a HIT news report.
Founded in 2018, the company’s platform leverages artificial intelligence to detect normal mammograms, flag them and filter them out of the worklist. This allows radiologists to dedicate more time to complex medical cases requiring immediate attention.
Vera combines the proven experience and expertise of industry-leading physicians with revolutionary technology to make data-backed breast cancer screening more accessible to everyone worldwide.
This is crucial for early detection of breast cancer, allowing clinicians to select the best possible medical interventions for improved therapy outcomes and patient longevity.
AI-driven Platform for Cancer Screening
Vara’s platform features a full suite of technology solutions designed for the entire breast cancer screening pathway and supports all stakeholders throughout the patient’s screening journey, from screening appointments to referrals for treatment.
The platform’s software reportedly outperformed the average radiologist in detecting breast cancer, with its integration into Germany’s National Breast Cancer Screening Program benefiting 80,000 women monthly. Its success underscores its potential to transform breast cancer screening and improve patient outcomes globally.
Vara’s platform packs a variety of benefits for breast cancer screening centers, including:
- Can Identify up to 50% of cancers missed by radiologists
- Reduces anxiety and cost to patients by minimizing recalls
- Enhanced efficiency for radiologists
Building on the success achieved by its cancer screening software, Vara is expanding into emerging markets in Asia and other parts of the world. So far, it has partnered with India’s leading imaging services provider NM Medical to improve early breast cancer detection and preventive care for women living in India.
