You must have seen that the idea behind taking medical imaging such as an X-Ray or a CT-Scan is quite simple as you really want to do it as quickly as possible and get the results as well so that you can know what is going on inside your body and get diagnosed about the problem you are having. Now, it is worth noting that in most parts of the world, the procedure to get a medical imaging can be different but in the UK, there is the public health system known as NHS and it has long waiting queues for patients who can’t even get an appointment for medical imaging. This is the reason why those who can afford are willing to skip the queue and go for private medical imaging services.
Now, a startup named Scan.com which provides private medical imaging services to patients, has just raised $12M so that it can scale and provide its services to as many users as possible. According to the company’s statement, “Our clinical team offers consultations and guidance to all patients once they’ve booked, which is a core part of the service we offer,”. “Their time is included in our scan pricing, which is why we take payment at the point of booking. During the consultation, the clinician can amend the scan type, add or amend body parts, and ensure the scan is both safe and medically justified for the patient’s needs.”
“Patients may choose to self-refer for imaging for a variety of reasons, but one of the core factors is speed,” “Some patients may have already seen a GP, physiotherapist, or other healthcare providers, but have reached a bottleneck in their healthcare pathway due to long waiting times. They may know what scan they need, and in many cases have been informed of the waiting time, and they choose to come to us to access the next steps faster”. Scan.com’s CEO also added that its services are risk-free because if a doctor determines that there was no need for a scan after the scan is done than Scan.com can refund the full amount.
