Texas-based AI-powered psychiatric care platform Legion Health has secured $6.3 million in a seed funding round led by Y Combinator to advance its marketplace platform into a fully functional digital psychiatry practice.
Co-founded in 2022 by Yash Patel, Arthur MacWaters and Daniel Wilson, the company leverages the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve patience care, enhance efficiency and provide solutions to healthcare challenges faced by both patients and healthcare providers.
The company’s platform aims to increase access to mental healthcare by connecting healthcare providers to healthcare organizations looking to scale their mental health services to reach more patients.
Transforming Patient Care through Technology
Legion Health’s primary focus was to help healthcare providers scale their mental health services through their digital marketplace. However, with the growing mental health crisis, the company acknowledged the need to employ a more direct approach to addressing the complexities of mental health.
According to a report published in 2023, anxiety and depression are increasingly becoming a new public health threat due to stressful situations, including economic meltdown, loneliness, loss of loved ones, and social media use.
The growing need for mental healthcare services has necessitated a change in mental healthcare approaches to lower the cost of care and improve patient outcomes.
The company’s platform features intelligent scheduling, which allows patients to book appointments automatically; patient risk stratification, which selects and prioritizes patients with complex needs; and operation optimization through streamlined workflow.
