Gordons Chemists, an independent pharmacy chain managing eighteen stores in the eastern part of Northern Ireland, was able to collect £16,570 for Action Cancer, a charity organization that offered free screening to women of certain age brackets outside the range in the National Health Services.
These services are provided to women who are aged 40-49 years and over 70 years, and each screening costs the charity £120. These were obtained through raffle schemes, fancy dress events, and bake sales by the 54 branches of the pharmacy in Northern Ireland.
Fundraising initiatives were largely conducted in May and October during the annually observed Breast Cancer Month.
Gordons Seventeen-Year Partnership
This is the 17th year of sponsorship between Gordons Chemists and Action Cancer. Mark Jones, the charity’s corporate fundraising executive, was very happy to note the kind donations made by the staff and customers. This year’s funds would be offering 138 free screenings in Northern Ireland, according to him.
A Lifelong Dedication to Placemaking
Regional Action Cancer representative Melanie Talbot, the marketing manager at Gordons Chemists, expressed the company’s pride in supporting the organization. While they were excited about the progress made by the staff in ensuring that lives are saved, they thanked the customers for the donations they provided.
“Indeed, we have witnessed customers identify cancer in their bodies through these screenings, after being urged to make an appointment by our employees,” shared Talbot. Said that continuing to support Action Cancer is something that is important as the company’s contribution to the community.
