Culina Health, a digital platform providing accessible clinical nutrition care for just about anyone, announced it has secured $7.9 million in Series A funding.
The investment follows a reported 117% year-over-year growth and strong patient engagement and clinical outcomes in the recent past. The funding round brings Culina Health’s total capital raised so far to a whopping $20 million.
Healthworx, the innovation and investment arm of CareFirst, led the round, further solidifying its commitment after a 2022 investment that made Culina Health the first digital nutrition company backed by a strategic payer .
Other participants in the round included Rethink Impact, Collab Capital, Collide Capital, Vamos Ventures, Tensility Venture Partners, Cake Ventures, and GW Ventures.
Culina Health plans to use the new capital to expand its offerings for dietitians and patients, implement new AI platforms to improve care efficiency, and make key leadership hires .
Virtual Nutrition Covered by Insurance
Founded in 2020 by registered dietitians Vanessa Rissetto and Tamar Samuels, Culina Health connects patients and healthcare providers with a nationwide network of registered dietitians who provide personalized virtual nutrition care in areas such as chronic disease prevention and management, weight loss, healthy eating, and wellness.
The company partners with major insurers and Medicare, making its platform available to 70% of the U.S. population. Culina Health reported it has over 1,000 referring providers and serves over 10,000 patients using the “Culina Health Method.” This methodology integrates evidence-based clinical nutrition protocols with culturally sensitive care to help patients achieve health outcomes .
The company claims its method has resulted in outcomes including 100% prevention of prediabetes disease progression for patients, significant reductions in A1c, cholesterol, and systolic blood pressure, and $7,000 in cost savings per patient per year, potentially amounting to $10.3 billion in annual cost savings at scale.
