Berlin-based AI health technology startup Clare&me has raised €3.7M ($4.02M) in the latest funding round to develop the first clinical large language model (CLLM).
Co-founded by Emilia Theye and Celina Messner in 2021, the company aims to digitize mental health care and bridge the gap between demand and supply.
The latest round was led by YZR, a Munich-based health technology investor, supported by significant contributions from Kodori Ventures, Material Ventures, and Antler, alongside existing angel investors.
In addition to investors’ contributions, Clare&Me received grants from European funds, the Development Bank of Berlin, and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
World First Clinical Large Language Model
Clare&me’s AI platform offers science-backed behavioral therapy techniques via a smartphone, allowing users to access the AI assistant via phone calls or WhatsApp for up to 45 minutes.
Psychotherapists will train the new clinical large language model in critical areas, including matching the user’s symptoms to scientifically proven behavioral therapy. It will also be trained to understand and manage memory in a mental health context.
Additionally, the AI will be trained to cultivate a therapeutic tone or voice for an enhanced user experience.
Celina Messner, CEO and co-founder, told TFN that the platform was designed with safeguards to prevent potential misuse. As such, the AI can trigger specific diagnostic conversations or disable the user’s account if certain restricted keywords are used.
