Boone Memorial Health BMH is glad to confirm that it has been awarded $5,894,527 million for the Governor Jim Justice Rural Hospital Grant Programme.
The grant is part of the revised $40 million ‘Investment in West Virginia’s Rural Community Hospitals,’ which was concealed by the Governor of West Virginia, Justice Charles, on December 10, 2024, in BMH.
This funding will enable BMH to execute several significant healthcare programs in Boone, Logan, Lincoln, and southern Kanawha communities.
Key Projects Funded by the Grant
The nearly $6 million grant will support the following projects at BMH:
- The plan is to establish Boone County’s first cancer center in Boone, West Virginia, which will offer new options in oncology and chemotherapy infusion.
- Construction of a behavioral health clinic to offer mental health and substance use disorder services in Chapmanville.
- Increase in the number of observation beds in Boone Memorial Hospital to enhance observation and treatment of patients.
- Acquisition of advanced robots for surgery to upgrade the surgical service delivery.
Impact on Rural Healthcare
“These projects will greatly improve our capacity to care for the health of our people,” noted Angie Christian, COO at BMH. As a strategy to solve pressing problems, the funding is to increase access to effective treatments, mental health services, and crucial medical technologies.
Investor support and government support
The Rural Hospital Grant Program demonstrates Justice’s and the West Virginia Legislature’s concern for enhancing the availability of healthcare in rural zones.
BMH’s General Counsel, Ray Harrell, also highlighted that this grant helps maintain the quality of healthcare delivery in rural areas, fosters assets such as economic stability, and supports the local healthcare systems.
