We are clearly in a conflict right now when we see reports from the world of technology related to health that say there are using AI to give you advice on something related to your health. This is because we have created AI models based on the inputs that we have given to it so how can we be so sure that the AI model gives you the correct advice as it will simply be the advise that we believe is correct and not what is a fact. It is also the feeling of peak AI when someone builds a chatbot to advise us on bone health.
Well, that is exactly what is happening. Wellen is building a chatbot using OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology that will soon advise you on your bone health. TechCrunch reports that “New York–based bone health–focused fitness startup that launched earlier this year with a subscription service aimed at middle-aged women — touting science-backed “personalized” strength training programs designed to help with osteopenia and osteoporosis — has just launched one such AI chatbot built on OpenAI’s LLM.”
Wellen’s CEO Priya Patel says that “We are using OpenAI’s API to create embeddings that produce a vector store of our content,” and also adds that “We are leveraging a popular open-source framework called LangChain to facilitate the search and retrieval of information within our embeddings.” Talking about the authenticity of this advises, she adds that “All of our Well Guide content is written and peer-reviewed by experts in the field, and includes references to peer-reviewed research, medical societies and governmental agencies.”
Talking about the idea and motivation behind this chatbot, Priya says that “Our goal with the chatbot is to make information more accessible and available”. “Most people spend hours Google-ing medical questions online but we have hundreds of pages of expert-written content on our website that could streamline this search process. With our chatbot, we can make it easier than ever for users to leverage the information we’ve already assembled and easily find science-backed answers to their questions, along with direct links to the underlying sources”. She adds that the chatbot will include sources which are resources that can verify the information provided.
