Barwon Health to implement a digital community EMR system

Health and Wellness Informatics News

Barwon Health will adopt a platform-based community EMR system across its services by next year.

The regional health service based in Geelong, Victoria, will implement a cloud-based EMR system. The system will use Salesforce Health Cloud to provide real-time data to the system. This data will include clinical information, appointment times, and other resources. The system also takes care of consumer data security and privacy.

Local software integrator Mav3rik will build the system. The system will go live across Barwon Health’s services and Mental Health, Drugs, and Alcohol Services. This will exclude the Swanston Centre, however.

The community EMR will digitize health records for community and mental health patients. As a result, it’ll improve the quality and efficiency of diagnosis. It’ll also enable doctors to cater to care episodes in a better manner. This is a significant improvement compared to paper-based health environments.

What’s important is that there will be real-time updates on the data. It allows both doctors and patients to make an accurate analysis of health data.

Patients will also be able to access their Barwon Health information. It enables them to make choices on their health in a better way. They can access educational resources on health too. They can also talk to their healthcare providers on the portal.

Medical staff visiting patients can quickly access information through the portal. It is simple, accurate, and paperless.

EMR digitization reflects the continuing trend of implementing digital solutions. As a result, Barwon Health has upgraded its processes and services to the digital platform.

Last year they launched the CovaxApp to help their vaccination campaign. This helped to curb Coronavirus’ Delta Variant outbreak. Delta variant is a highly contagious form of coronavirus. This app had come before the Victorian government launched an online vaccine booking platform.

Barwon Health also teamed up with the South West Alliance of Rural Health to develop InterSystems’ IRIS for Health platform. It fast-tracked real-time analysis of healthcare data.
